Mountain West Endoscopy center is pleased to announce that most patients having procedures will be able to receive a newer type of anesthesia called Propofol. Propofol was chosen to be used at the center in order to enhance patient comfort and satisfaction.
Used in surgical settings for years, Propofol is a type of anesthesia that physicians at Mountain West Endoscopy are accustomed to using.
The patient will be given anesthesia by a licensed anesthesia provider (CRNA-Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) and monitored through-out the case by the CRNA. The two biggest Propofol benefits for the patient are an increased level of comfort and they wake up faster. They are not as groggy when they go home. HOWEVER, they still need a driver and to take the same precautions (i.e. they can’t work or drive that day)!
Patients with soy and egg allergies aren’t candidates to receive Propofol. Also some patients may have medical conditions that would preclude them from being a Propofol candidate. The decision of whether a person will receive Propofol or conscious sedation is made by the CRNA and the physician after assessing the patient and reviewing the history.
Most all insurance plans cover the use of Propofol. Self pay patients should be aware there is an extra charge of about $245.00, but there is no extra charge to receive conscious sedation.
